There is a neat signature of ownership to the front paste down but this is hidden by the dustwrapper front flap. John Galt (2 May 1779 - 11 April 1839) was a Scottish novelist, entrepreneur, and political and social commentator. Because he was the first novelist to deal with issues of the industrial revolution, he has been called the first political novelist in the English language. by an accident in publishing history 'The Member' has only appeared previously in one edition in 1932. This long overdue reissue of one of John Galt's best and most lively novels is also a social document of unusual interest. It is in fact the first political novel in English, a shrewd picture of the old House of Commons before the passing of the 1832 Reform Bill. Ref X5. N° de réf. du vendeur 007099
